Delmar DustPan: A Day In The Garden
I created this blog so I could continue to provide a place where people could discuss educational issues freely.
My name is Kim Williams and I am a parent with two children in a Red Clay school and I was elected to the Red Clay School Board this year. I started a blog called Fix Red Clay about 1 1/2 years ago with another parent, Anne O'Malia. Anne decided it was time to move on and I wanted to continue, so I started Red Clay Now.
I hope you will continue to visit this site. I welcome any ideas or suggestions.
You can email me at redclaynow@comcast.net.

A extremely well done interview with Diane Ravitch on WHYY Radio. The average person is able to understand at our level as to what is taking place in our public school system across the country. I think the main point for me was to find out that some state schools actually commit fraud by fixing test scores so they look like they are doing well so as to hope teachers don't get blamed or schools being threatened that they will be closed. The other thing was kids are spending so much time up to the testing being prepared that when the testing is over, the kids have no motivation to learn since they know nothing else counts now. So they slack off. Most kids are basically only learning math and reading. Science, geography, history, languages, arts, and the list could go on are basically not being taught. Special Ed is also being ignored big time. Our nation in education is in peril. Please stop blaming it on teachers. It is the state's superintendents and politicians who control what is happening. We do not have to privatize schools.. That would be a disaster. The teacher's unions are doing just fine and are needed. Thank goodness Obama realizes that NCLB and RTTT are nto working. I think Obama is going to talk tonight on Fox about these problems. Not sure what time.
Kim -- Why didn't you tell us that the Red Clay superintendent was the superintendent who went to Washington DC yesterday???
I think she's fantastic! I hope she inspires a shift in the minds et of this country and our system.
